Final Film Dead Weight

Director's Commentary- Dead Weight

Evaluation

Encoding in our film opening

This time lapse of the sun set indicates a new day, and something else is now going to happen.

This shot goes well with the news report voiceover, we see keys still in the car, indicating that there must have been a panic as the doors are even still open.

This shot of the news scene shows that things are turning for the worse, the buzz indicates things are not as they appear.

This shot gives the audience a quick glance at the zombie and reinforces the genre and that something bad is going to happen, causing question and making them want to watch more.

The first shot of the news report shows a professional looking station delivering bad news, that an infection has spread, this sets the scene for the film and informs the audience that people are at risk.

The Editing Process

This shows the amount of audio and FX that went into the making of our film, we have changed the audio level in some parts so it flows smoothly. We had to arrange the audio so it matched up with the video and that the sound was in the correct position .

This shows the audio and video fades that were used to create a professional look for the film, this works well with the genre of the film, as it's dark and mysterious and things are not normal as is normally expected. Also the time lapse we used had to be cut from 1 Hr 40 min to around 10 seconds, to do this we cut some unnecessary parts and sped the clip up by 20,000%.

This shows the colour corrector that we used to add the effect onto the film. To create a dark, and mysterious atmosphere we created a black and white scene onto the some of the clips. This is a simple, yet effective way to change the whole look of the film, and to make it appear professional.

We used Livetype to create the credits and the title sequence, this is the first time i have used this software and i am now more familiar into how to use it. We decided on the red colour and font, this goes well with the nature of the film, we then exported it to Final Cut Express where we placed it into our film.

What we learnt from the preliminary and Engaging The Audience

We have learnt a lot from the preliminary task , and expanded our knowledge on how to use final cut express. doing the preliminary helped us understand the structure of final cut and the effects we could use. We understood as well that a script is important and that planning what we are doing is a must. We discovered different camera angles doing the starter task and became more familiar in what we could do with the camera such as using low angle shots. we planned the main film with everyone and took the necessary equipment such as the tripod and camera. we discovered though later on that we need more shots of the news report scene as the clip was to long and maybe a shot reverse shot would of been better, but we got around this by using this for our credit sequence and breaking the report up with quick clips of a zombie attack.

Engaging The Audience

We are going to get the audience gripped into our film by making it mysterious and engaging. to do this the credits will be appealing as well as the news reports which are realistic and tells you what has took place. Also the sound adds to the atmosphere and the FX sounds are also effective.
